Refuse Single Use Plastic
The Plastic Pollution Coalition mission is to stop plastic pollution and its toxic impact on humans, animals, the ocean and the environment. PPC was founded in 2009 as a platform to amplify a common message through strategic planning and communication.
They have over 400 members and a growing coalition of individuals seek to increase awareness and understanding of the plastic pollution problem, and to find sustainable solutions.
We don't need to list more than a few of the reasons why single use plastics should be eliminated from our vocabulary; but if you are occasionally tempted by the convenience of a plastic bag, the below list may sway your tendencies.
1. Plastic affects human health. Chemicals leached by plastics are in the blood and tissue of nearly all of us. Exposure to them is linked to cancers, birth defects, impaired immunity, endocrine disruption and other ailments.
2.. Plastic never goes a way. It is durable and lasts for biological time.
3. Plastic spoils our groundwater. There are thousands of landfills in the United states holding harmful plastics that leach toxins into groundwater, lakes and rivers.
4. Manufacturers' additives in plastics, like flame retardants, BPAS and PVCs, can leach their own toxins. These oily poisons repel water and stick to petroleum-based objects like plastic debris.
